Why supplement with collagen?
The protein is a essential component of all tendons, ligaments and muscles, collagen is also a major constituent in the make up of your skin and bones.
Though this structural protein is naturally produced in the body, production naturally slows significantly as we get older, resulting in thinning hair, brittle nails and a loss of skin elasticity.
But it is not just age that can cause a decrease in our collagen levels. Eating a diet low in natural collagen (it is usually found in meat, fish and dairy) can mean that you do not quite get enough.
Equally, eating a diet high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can damage the collagen supply, as can smoking and exposing your skin to the sun’s rays. All of which is clearly seen in the delicate, prematurely aged complexion of smokers and tanners.
The benefits of bovine collagen
There are two types of collagen popular with those keen to supplement; hydrolysed collagen and bovine collagen, or gelatin.
Both have their benefits, but because it is known for its high bioavailability, our Collagen Creamer has selected sustainably sourced bovine collagens for their creamer simply because they are more easily absorbed and digested by the human body.
Our Collagen creamer contains type I collagen, the most prevalent collagen in the human body, found in skin, bones, organs and tendons, and most likely to decline with age.
It also includes type III collagen, usually found in bone marrow.
